Unadulterated Truth - Serve It Up and Live
"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life..."
Truth is embodied in God.
"You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free."
Truth is to be sought after because it can be known.
"Buy the Truth, and do not sell it, also wisdom and instruction and understanding."
Truth is highly valued, so much so that we are admonished to gain it and never let it go.
Truth is to be bought. And here we are instead. Twenty-first century America. Truth has been sold. Our current culture has traded it in and accepted a hoax. We are told and we believe that there is no such thing as absolute truth. And ironically enough we accept that as ABSOLUTE TRUTH! How sad is that? And what's more, how devastating?
We are left without an anchor, without a compass, without a mooring - a whole generation raised on situational ethics, "no such thing as truth" - and boy, does it show.
What's more, because we don't seek truth, we don't seek God because God is Truth. Instead we have turned everyone to their own way to seek their own wisdom. And mine isn't the same as yours isn't the same as theirs isn't the same as mine was yesterday isn't the same as it will be tomorrow but might be the same as yours or theirs was yesterday. You get the picture.
Currently, in all of this, there is a generation being labeled as the Millenials. And there is much talk about how the Church ought to be engaging these Millenials. What kind of programs do they want? What should our services look like, be comprised of? Should there be coffee served? Greeters? Hymns or contemporary worship? Smoke machines, anyone? Or robes and liturgy?
I wonder, in all our musings, if there is a simple answer: share Truth.
If it's popular, so be it. If it isn't, so be it. The truth about Truth is that it is unalterable, not to be tampered with, and, yes, I'll say it - absolute.
And I'm just simple enough to believe that Truth served will bring freedom, life, knowledge, and salvation. And something tells me that a generation who has stumbled around in a world where no one has or gives (even if they do have them) straight answers just might be drawn to Truth, to Him.
It is time, the harvest is ripe. Shout the Truth! Declare it loudly, clearly, compassionately with passion - whether in stained glass window settings or at the beach front! They will hear, they will come, they will respond. They hunger for Truth. They know they are stumbling and are weary of being without a shepherd.
It is a desperate hour. We must throw all the guessing away. Stop playing the politician's game of poll taking and sticking a finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.
Truth will win the day. It will cost us. But we must buy Truth, spend our very lives for it! Then serve it up and see life come forth.
